Headache Causes

There are a number of different headache causes, and depending on the particular type of headache you may be suffering from, these can vary greatly. For most people suffering from general non-disease or ailment caused headaches the headaches they suffer from are called tension headaches. These headaches are the result of increased stress either physically or mentally and can come in various forms ranging from mild to moderate severity.

Another cause of common headaches such as those originating from the neck or back is due to poor posture or other strain that regularly could be affecting your spine and its nearby muscles. Chemically speaking there are a number of other items that can affect your body and its ability to function normally. One of the leading causes in developing headaches for people is an imbalance of the chemical serotonin in the brain that can your body to be affected in a number of ways and can contribute to the formation of headaches of various intensities. Many people who are suffering from depression commonly have a serotonin imbalance and therefore suffer from headaches as well, and as such anti-depressants containing serotonin have been known to help prevent or treat many headaches in sufferers.

Other causes that play major roles in sever headaches (either episodic or chronic) are fluctuations in blood flow throughout the body, though in the brain in particular. By the vascular system in the brain changing many times various brain sectors can be affected and cause headaches ranging anywhere from mild irritations to migraines. Because of this some chemicals that can affect blood flow such as caffeine, nicotine and various stimulants have been known to cause headaches if taken in large quantities and can even trigger migraines if sufferers are not careful. Certain foods containing various chemicals can also contribute to this and as such many people must adjust their diet accordingly in order to help ensure that as many causes as possible can be eliminated if they are susceptible to headache pains.
